Jungfruholmen - Stockholm archipelago drone data

The Stockholm Archipelago is the largest of its kind in Sweden. With over 30 000 islands it covers an area of more than 650 square miles. These islands are a national treasure and a true biodiversity treasure that must be protected. How can we better understand these islands? How can we put them on a map and monitor their health?

Our Crowddroner Armel mapped this island in the Stockholm Archipelago which is only reachable by boat. You can already see the multiple florae that is striving there and with a careful eye, you can even detect the type of trees that are present. We can calculate the surface quickly, and if done repeatedly over a steady timeframe, we can measure the rate of sea level rise. Because this is a small island, mapping it on a monthly, or yearly basis to measure sea level rise is very easy and cheap.

Urban forests are very important for biodiversity in a city environment. We must increase the green areas in a city and protect individual islands that are also helping creating more trees and vegetation. Documenting them and sharing them with the public is a tool to raise awareness and contribute to a better understanding of the importance of biodiversity. By doing that, more and more people become aware of how important it is to preserve such unique environments.
