Solar Energy is brightest with drones

Solar power is a force to be reckoned with as a contender in the race for fueling our daily lives with more sustainable electricity. Solar panel technology has been around for decades, but it’s only in recent years that we have seen an increase in investment towards building and maintaining solar power globally. Crowddroning is paving the road for drones to make sure our solar power is built to last.

The largest solar farms in the world span out over thousands of acres of land. Many of these large sites are located in China, India, and the United States. According to Energy Live News, drones can reduce the cost of solar design projects by 70% while reducing the time it takes to scope out suitable properties by 90%.

The use of drones in the solar power industry is a good fit for planning, building, and maintaining solar panels and farms. Traditionally, satellite imagery is used for these measurements. Still, it is rarely accurate or recent enough to entirely rely on in comparison to a drone’s ability to provide instant fresh data.

Earlier this year, GLOBHE provided drone data over Cyprus to deliver an accurate elevation to prepare future solar farms. Drones efficiently map out potential fields and provide centimeter-precision accuracy in the topography of an area. This precision helps determine the best placement of panels to maximize efficiency.

Once a solar power installation is completed, drones help maintain the panels by performing routine inspections to identify potential risks, damage, or faulty cells.

Maintaining a healthy solar installment is not only to ensure that your solar power produces the most efficient energy; it’s also to ensure that an installation lasts as long as possible and that panels aren’t replaced unless necessary. The materials in solar panels mainly consist of glass. Still, it also contains several toxic and hazardous materials that not all countries recycle safely, resulting in waste pollution. The rollout of more solar power must be planned and executed thoroughly to avoid a more significant environmental disaster down the road.

A successful future in solar energy starts with a successful installation from the start. Utilizing drone technology to provide the accuracy and details throughout all installation phases to get the job done right is the way to go. Together with our Crowddroning community, GLOBHE is bringing sustainability to the solar power industry and a bright future ahead.
